An attachment has been added to the tourism in North Bengal on Sunday. Jamune is now a new point of tourist attraction in Darjeeling. Tourists of Sikkim, halting in Darjeeling for two days or three, can make a visit to this place as the route to South Sikkim through Jamune is very well-connected. Near about 18 km from the Darjeeling town, this new born tourist place has a man-made water vessel with boating facility, fountain and beautiful garden around. A 100 ft statue of Lord Shiva beside the tank and a guest house are also being built.

The Chief Executive of GTA or Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Bimal Gurung, says that presenting Jamune as one of the main interests for tourists has been the dream project of GTA since its inception. An estimated project cost of 40 crore INR was allotted by the GTA them and gradually it took around 4 years to build water kingdom, fountain, children’s park, garden, hanging bridge and pond. Finally the inauguration was done on Sunday by Mr. Gurung, who said, “A long-term dream has succeeded. Once it is fully operational, the locals can find jobs here. Stalls and market will be organised. We hope that Darjeeling tourists will visit and stay at least for one night in Janume. Travelling from Jorethang of South Sikkim to Darjeeling or to Sikkim via Darjeeling will now be much easier for many tourists, especially who visit both Darjeeling and Sikkim at one trip. Even the roadway connection towards Sikkim border with Darjeeling has been improved. The central govt. has handed over the entire project cost to GTA.
