Aritar is actually an isolated tourist location in the district of East Sikkim and is located at the eastern most region of Sikkim. The places is mostly known for lake, deep green forest, rustling river, monasteries and more such enjoyable locations, scattered in the area of Aritar. The tourist places in Aritar are one of the most popular places of entire Sikkim.
Elevated at an altitude of 1400 m, this is one of the oldest natural lakes in the whole Sikkim. Later, some artificial construction is done for providing bathing facility to the travellers. Boating facility is also available for tourists in Lampokhari.
Considered as one of the holiest and oldest monasteries in Sikkim, Aritar Gompa does not only hold religious importance, it also provides view of tranquil natural atmosphere. Built with Kagyuapa order, the gompa is known for splendid monastic arts, carved and painted murals and teasure of manuscripts and icons of traditional culture.
One of the most revered temples and pilgrimage sites, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. A huge number of devotees are seen here to worship the Lord, especially during the Hindu month of ‘Sawan’. There is a ritual to sip the sacred water from a sacred vessel which is considered to bring blessing to your life.
This is actually a house of ‘Nirmal Guruji’ or ‘Kopchey Baba’. He is known for his miraculous healing power. Thousands of devotees are attracted to this holy site fom all over India and neighbouring countries. Rhenock Bazar is about 5 km away from here.
Sir James Claude White, who was the first political officer of Sikkim during British rule, built this old British dak bungalow during 1895. It is today popularly known as Ari-Bangla.
The temple belongs to the Rai or Nepali origin. Also known as Mangkhim, it is elevated at an altitude of 6500 ft in Maity Village. Another serene village here is Hattipailay; you can see elephant footprints on the rock here.
This private nursery and museum has a drift wood collection, botanical and other varieties in flowers. It is located in Rhenock Bazar.
Some other points of tourist interest in Aritar are Changey Waterfall, Love Dara, trekking in Lungchok Valley, Kali Khola Falls or Lonely Falls etc.
