From 1670 to 1814, this place was the capital of Sikkim. The ruins of Rabdentse Palace are now a nationally important site after the announcement of Archaeological Survey of India. Apart from ruins and chorten, the magnificent view of Mt Kanchenjunga attracts lots of tourists here.
40 various species of rhododendron beside the Yumthang River is the prime attraction of Singhba Rhododendron Sanctuary. Located on the Yumthang Valley, the area looks fabulous when the trees are in full bloom during April and early-May.
Tsomgo or Changu Lake is situated around 3780m above sea level and 40km from Gangtok. The surrounding location of this glacier lake is excellent for bird lovers because of Forktails, Blue Whistling Thrush, Brahminy Ducks etc.
A home and preservation centre to red panda, panther, leopard cat, Himalayan tahr and more such endangered species of animals, birds, trees, this biosphere reserve is located in the lap of Mt Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world.
