Namchi is one of the prime locations of tourist attractions in South Sikkim. The name itself is meant ‘sky-high’ in Sikkimese language. Situated amongst the serene atmosphere of the Eastern Himalayas, Namchi is visited by random tourists and pilgrims throughout the year.
The Sikkim Govt built a cultural complex to promote eco-tourism, village-tourism and religious value of Sikkim. The complex is also known as Siddheshwar Dham. Char Dham is actually has replicas of Badrinath Dham, Jagannath Dham, Dwarka Dham and Rameshwar Dham, spread in a large area of 29 hectares on the top of Solophok Hill. The main temple of 108 ft height has a statue of Lord Shiva of 87 ft.
The Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir and Pilgrimage Centre is the first Sai Baba Temple in entire Sikkim. There is a statue of Shirdi Sai Baba in the wonderful complex, along with sculptures and paintings of other gods and goddesses in the hall-walls.
The word ‘samdruptse’ means ‘wish fulfilling hill’ in Bhutia language. A stunning statue of Guru Padmasambhava is built inside the temple, which is built as a tribute to the saint. The statue is the prime attraction for tourists to come here.
There is a monastery in the town of Namchi. It is located on the top of the town and exhibits some of the best paintings, art and craft of local artists.
Tendong Hill is an 8530 ft altitude hill amidst the Himalayas. In Lepcha language, ‘tendong’ means ‘the upraised horn’. According to local legend, the hill saves the area of Namchi from getting flooded. It is also said to be the meditation site for Buddhist Lamas.
The Serdup Choling Monastery follows the lineage of Nyingmapa Sect. Established in the year of 1967, the monastery is a combined contribution of Serdup Dungzin Jigme Wangchuk Rinpoche and his brother Khachoed Tulku Dudjom Dorjee.
The Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 3500 hectares at an altitude of 10600 ft and is enriched with variety of flora like medicinal plants and herbs, and fauna including red panda, marbled-cat, goral, leopard cats, sunbirds, black eagle, magpies etc.
