It is very obvious that being the part of the Old Silk Route, an offshoot of the historic Silk Route, Nathula Pass attracts thousands of tourists every year for its historical significance. Apart from that, the location at high altitude in the Himalayas provides stunning view around. There are also some tourist places in Nathula or nearby this pass which are must-to-visit tourist spots of Sikkim.
The mountain pass in Nathula carries an age-old history and has a very prominent role in the history of India and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Apart from that the location is a treat for the eyes. The surrounding snow-covered valley and gigantic snow-clad Himalayan peaks are something not to be missed during trip to Sikkim.
It will take hardly half an hour to reach Tsomgo Lake or Changu Lake from Nathula. The glacier-fed lake holds a mesmerising beauty in its surrounding and being located at an altitude of 3753 m, it remains completely frozen during the winter.
The Baba Mandir or Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple is at a distance of 9 km from Nathula. It is built in the memory of a soldier of Indian Army, who died in 1968 and regarded as the ‘Hero of Nathula’ by the soldiers of the army and local people.
The lake of Menmecho is located in East Sikkim district at a distance of 15 km from Nathula and 20 km from Tsomgo Lake. The surrounding of the lake is quite enjoyable and the lake is fed by melting snow during summer and rainwater during monsoon.
Although it takes around 1 hour to reach Dzuluk or Zuluk from Nathula, it is worthy of visiting this small mountain village while making trips around Nathula Pass. The hamlet is situated at an elevation of 3000 m and famous for its winding roads and excellent view of Mt Kanchenjunga.
The paradise-like place of Nathang Valley is elevated at a height of 13500 ft above the sea level and appears in different colours in the different times of a year. If your visit Nathang from Nathula, it takes hardly 30 minutes’ of driving to arrive at there.
The wildlife sanctuary of Kyongnosla is located at East Sikkim district in the adjacent location of Tsomgo Lake by the Nathula Road. This alpine sanctuary, covering 31 sq km, is enriched both in flora and fauna. Rare and endangered species of orchids and rhododendron are found here.
